  The vessel was built as a cargo vessel "Santa Clara"  in 1913. In 1945 she was transferred to the Soviet Union under Lend Lease and renamed "Kapitan Smirnov" and assigned to the Far East State Sea Shipping Company. In early 1960s "Kapitan Smirnov" assigned to the Ministry of Fisheries.
