28.02.1967 -  "Tropik" type trawler "Tukan" sank during a storm about 15 miles west of Hanstholm Lighthouse on the west coast of Judand in lat. 57:18N, long. 08:23E.
04.03.1967 -  Logger SRT-4240 "Orel" ran aground at the point of Skaw, Unst island (Shetlands Islands).

03.1977 -   Freezer trawler "Svobodnyy" was grounded during heavy storm.


09.10.1978 -  Singaporean motor vessel "Nordmark" collided with "Tavriya" type fish processing vessel"Rudnyy" in the Baltic Sea.
28.12.1978 -  "Mayakovsky" type fish factory trawler"Boris Gorinskiy" sank following a collision with refrigerated fish carrier "Proliv Laperuza" .
1978 -  Fish factory trawler "Krechet" grounded on eastern shore of Kamchatka.


01.01.1979 -  Fish factory trawler "Severomorskiy Komsomolets" was wrecked near the cape Chevray in the Barents Sea.

05.02.1979 -  B14 type trawler "Metrostroy" disappeared during a blizzard in the Barents Sea about 55 miles east of Vardo, far north-eastern Norway.

16.04.1983 -  Fire on board of factory trawler"Khrustal".
20.06.1983 -  "Tropik" type trawler"Orion" while fishing at coast of Africa as a result of a rough navigating mistake ran aground at speed 8 kn.
11.1983 -  Trawler SRTM 8-428 sank in the Bering Sea.


08.03.1984 -  Factory trawler"Khrustal" ran aground in Kaliningrad sea canal, while in tow to scrapyard after the tow rope broke.
30.05.1984 -  Trawler"German Titov" sank in the Sea of Okhotsk.
22.08.1984 -  Motor vessel "Akademik Shukhov" collided with "Tavriya" type fish processing vessel"Burevestnik" on the Liepaya road.

03.1985 -  Fire at B62 type Fish factory ship "Sovetskaya Kamchatka" in a bay about 90 miles from Vladivostok.
14.10.1985 -  Freezer trawler "Iozas Vitas" collided with Spanish trawler "Alcoco".


08.1987 -  Freezer trawler "Mongoliya" was grounded near village Dikson, Kara Sea.


02.04.1988 -  "Pioner Latvii" type trawler "Mys Bobrova" sank in the Bering Sea, after becoming stuck in ice, which pierced her hull, causing water to gush into her engine-room.
08.12.1988 -  "Mayakovsky" type trawler"Nadezhdinsk" run aground at the bay Glubokaya, Kamchatka.
09.12.1988 -  Freezer trawler "Za Rodinu" sank after collision in the Baltic Sea.


06.09.1989 -  Fishing vessel "Ladushkin" sank following a collision with Finnish tanker "Tebostar" in the Baltic Sea off Gotland Island in lat. 56:33N, long. 17:45"30"E.
08.12.1989 -  Fire on board trawler "Vitautas Putna" in the Bay of Biscay in approximately lat. 45:04N, long. 08:09W.


01.1990 -  Seiner-trawler "Nevodskoye" sank in the Sea of Okhotsk after collision.
07.10.1990 -  Seiner-trawler "Demyansk" sank in the Ussuriyskiy Zaliv, Far East.
1990 -  Seiner-trawler "Repino" sank after collision in the Bay of Nakhodka.


1931 - Steam trawler RT-3 "KASATKA" - built in 1931 in Germany, port of registry - Murmansk.
  Trawler RT-3 "Kasatka" ran aground in the Barents Sea. Vessel was lost.


31.01.1932 - RT-47 "SOJUSRYBA" and RT-53 "OSETR" - built in 1931 in Germany, port of registry - Murmansk.
  On January 31, 1932 during heavy storm both trawlers foundered together with crew in the Barents Sea.


24.12.1948 - SRT-9 "N. KNIPOVICH" - German built medium size trawler.
  SRT-9 "N. Knipovich" run aground in stormy weather. The wessel was lost.


02.03.1949 - MRT-20 "Smelyy" and MRT-22 "Peredovoy" were fishing in the Baltic Sea in stormy weather. In attempt to enter into port Pionersk they being smashed against a concrete breakwater.


21.02.1950 - RL-118 "MIRAZH" - Logger type trawler, built in 1949 in GDR, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  On February 21, 1950 in dense fog trawler "Mirazh" ran aground on the Bornholm island, the Baltic Sea. Crew abandoned the vessel. Later she was broken on two parts.


12.01.1952 - Steam trawler RT-313 "VOSTOK" - built in 1931 in Italy,  yard No. 134, port of registry - Vladivostok.
  On January 12, 1952 vessel last time had radio communication with a port and she did not arrived in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy the same evening. During searching operation were found some goods from the trawler and body of seaman. It conjectured that the vessel blew up after collision with a floating mine.
 54 seamen were lost.


28.08.1952 - SRT-103 "RAKETA", SRT-142 "GONG", SRT-339 - Logger type trawlers, built in 1949-1950 in GDR,
  On August night 28, 1952 above-mentioned trawlers were waiting unloading not far from mother base "Tungus". In stormy weather all trawlers foundered. SRT-468 rescued 15 seamen from SRT-103 "Raketa". SRT-335 rescued all crew from SRT-339. All seamen from SRT-142 "Gong" were lost.


17.01.1955 - MRT-266 "MOYVA" - Small size fishing trawler, built in 1949 in Finland, yard No. 34.
MRT-266 "Moyva"
sank in the Baltic Sea in stormy weather. All 11 seamen lost their lives.


15.04.1955 - SRT-658 - Logger type trawler, built in 1952 in GDR, yard No. 658.
  On March 15, 1955 in the morning in heavy storm SRT-658 last time had radio communication. In the evening on march, 15 at sea was observed capsized trawler. Next day were found life boat and other objects from missing vessel. 23 (22?) seamen were lost together with vessel.


14.10.1955 - SRT-4209 "NORA" - Logger type trawler, built in 1954 in GDR,  yard No. 4209, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  On October 14, 1955 trawler SRT-4209 "Nora" came to one of bays of island Mykines to find shelter from a storm. During maneuvers in a bay the vessel run aground. All crew members were saved by other vessels.


19.11.1955 - SRT-657 - Logger type trawler, built in 1952 in GDR,  yard No. 657, port of registry - Vladivostok.
  On November 19, 1955 vessel ran aground on a reef. Both holds were flooded. Next day list of the trawler ran up to 34 degrees and water started to leak to engine room. On the evening on 21 november, after receiving of pumps from the tug "Roslavl", crew started pumping out of water from aft hold. In the morning on 22 November list of the vessels ran up to 6 degrees. Tug "Roslavl" pulled of the trawler and towed to port Korsakov.


15.12.1955 - SRT-186 "YAKUT" - Logger type trawler, built in 1950 in GDR, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  On December 15, 1955 trawler SRT-186 "Yakut" ran aground due navigation mistake near village Eidi, island Eysturoy, Faеroe Islands.


27.02.1956 - SRT-4105 - Logger type trawler, built in 1952, GDR,  yard No. 4105, port of registry - Nevelsk.
  On February 27, 1956 in heavy storm SRT-4105 sank together with crew on her way to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy. 22 seamen were lost.


1956 - RS-5294 "OLEVSK" - RS-300 type seiner, built in 1956 in GDR.
  Seiner RS-5294 collided with vessel "Kometa" in Aniva gulf, Far East. Her engine room was flooded. "Kometa" took seiner on tow but soon RS-5294 sank on depth 37 m. Subsequently she was refloated and put into operation.


02.1957 - "TULOMA" - "Yana" type fish carrier, built in 1956 in FRG, yard No. 513, IMO:5370565, port of registry - Vladivostok.
  In February 1957 fish carrier "Tuloma" on her way to Vladivostok run aground near one of kuril islands. She was pulled out from rocks and docked in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy. But there broke out a fire. Dock was submerged together with vessel. Later "Tuloma" was repaired and scrapped only in 1996.


03.03.1957 - SRT-4320 - Logger type trawler, built in 1956 in GDR,  yard No. 4320, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  On March 03, 1956 in Norwegian Sea west german fishing trawler BX-369 hit the soviet trawler SRT-4105. Left board of the vessel in area of engine room was holed. SRT-4105 sank. All crew members were saved by other vessels.


23.11.1957 - "UZBEKISTAN" - "Rega" type trawler, built in 1954, yard No. B10/25, port of registry - Murmansk.
  On November 23, 1957 trawler "Uzbekistan" wend its way from Murmansk to fishing bounds. To fix a problem in engine room they decided to drop anchor between continent and Kildin island, but as a result of navigation mistake the vessel grounded on rocks of Kildin island. All crew members were saved, but "Uzbekistan" was lost.


10.12.1957 - SRT-706 "SVIYAGA" - "Gornostay" type trawler, built in 1957, yard No. 706.
  On December 10, 1957 trawler SRT-706 "Sviyaga" sank near second Kuril Strait, the Sea of Okhotsk. 14 seamen died.


12.1957 - "KARP" - "Pioner" type trawler, built in 1957, Great Britain, yard No. 247, IMO:5182683, port of registry - Murmansk.
  In December 1957 trawler "Karp" damaged underwater part of speed log. Captain decided to fix the problem at sea. But when a log was pulled out crew could not quickly to close a hole and water began to fill the engine room. In several hours it was flooded because pumps could not to pump out so large quantity of water. Cargo vessel "Indigirka" took the trawler on tow and turn to Spitsbergen islands. But water leaked to aft spaces and "Karp" sank. All crew members were picked up by "Indigirka".


03.1958 - RT-37 "PALTUS" - ex"Siete", built in 1911, Argentina, yard No. 488, port of registry - Murmansk.
  In March 1958 trawler "Paltus" run aground on rocks not far from Murmansk, because of magnetic compass deviation was not checked and course of the vessel was laid incorrectly. Engine room was rapidly flooded and crew abandoned the vessel in life boats.


01.08.1958 - MRS-80 "MIRNYY" - project 389, small size fishing seiner.
MRS-80 "Mirnyy" capsized and sank at Far East together with 7 crew members.


28.08.1958 - SRT-463 "MEGRA" - Logger type trawler, built in 1951, GDR, yard No. 463, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  On August 28, 1958 trawler SRT-463 "Megra" ran aground due to navigation mistake at south end of norwegian island Jan Mayen. All crew members were rescued, but the vessel was lost.


28.09.1958 - MRS-80 "SLAVA" - project 389, small size fishing seiner.
MRS-80 "Slava" capsized and sank at Far East together with 4 crew members.


16.10.1958 - SRT-4442 "NESTEROV" - Logger type trawler, built in 1957, GDR, yard No. 4442, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  On October 16, 1958 SRT-4442 was disabled and adrift after propeller got entangled in net. Soon trawler was grounded on rocks of the Unst island, Shetland islands. When rescuers arrived they found at shore only three seamen, SRT-4442 foundered. According to other information the vessel was lost due to navigation mistake.


1958 - "KAPITAN PUTINTSEV" - ex SRT-647, logger type trawler, built in 1952 in GDR,  yard No. 647, port of registry - Nakhodka.
  Trawler "Kapitan Putintsev" during heavy storm near Utashud island got dangerous list. Captain decided to ground vessel. As a result of grounding one seaman died but all other rescued safely.


29.09.1960 - MRS-80 №1557 - project 389, small size fishing seiner.
MRS-80 №1557 capsized and sank at Far East together with 5 crew members.


27.01.1961 - SRTR-9005 "OLENEK" - "Okean" type trawler, built in 1958, GDR,  yard No. 9005.
  On January 27, 1961 during bad weather SRTR-9005 "Olenek" drifted on the north-west of Shetland Islands, not far from shore line. Soon she was grounded on rocks of the island Yell. 13 seamen lost their lives.


01.10.1961 - "SIMFEROPOL" - Sevastopol" type fish processing vessel, 1959, IMO:5328665, Yard No. 526, port of registry - Sevastopol.
  Vessel was grounded in lat. 22:59S, long. 14:24E near Walvis Bay, Namibia. Only on October 6, 1961 Simferopol" was pulled out from ground with efforts of three soviet vessels.


08.10.1961 - SRT-621 "YARTSEVO" - Logger type trawler, built in 1951, GDR,  yard No. 621, port of registry - Klaipeda.
  On October 08, 1961 SRT-621 "Yartsevo" run aground near island Christianso, not far from island Bornholm in theBaltic Sea. All crew members were rescued next day.  It was made attempt to refloat vessel, but finally decided to finish works because of large damage to hull.


02.02.1962 - SRT-356 "MAIA" - Logger type trawler, built in 1950, GDR,  yard No. 356, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  On February 02, 1962 SRT-356 "Maia" together with SRT-356 "Angarsk" were anchored in one of bays on the north of Shetland Islands. Main engine of SRT-356 "Maia" was under repair. Because of bad weather trawlers started to drift and soon ran aground on rocks of Fetlar island. Later SRT-356 "Angarsk" slipped from rocks, but SRT-356 "Maia" next day the vessel foundered.


20.10.1962 - "SOVETSKAYA KAMCHATKA" - Severodvinsk" type fish processing vessel, built in 1961 in Poland, IMO:5336014, B62/09, port of registry - Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.
  While berthed at the port Magadan,  on October 20, 1962 in  one of cabines broke out a fire from cigarette stub.  Flame was enlarged to other cabines and navigation bridge. Two men died in fire.


03.1963 - "RASTOROPNYY" - "Mirnyy" type whale catcher, built in 1962, USSR, port of registry - Vladivostok.
  On March 16, 1963 vessel ran aground on the rock in lat. 63:53S, long. 60:34W. Two days later she was pulled out from rocks and taken in tow. But in heavy weather condition the vessel was lost and foundered  in lat. 63:57S, long. 60:42W.


30.04.1963 - "SOVETSKAYA LITVA" - Severodvinsk" type fish processing vessel, built in 1959 in Poland, IMO:5336040, B62/04, port of registry - Klaipeda.
  While berthed at the home port Klaipeda,  on April 30, 1963, in  the cabin of 4th engineer broke out a fire from cigarette stub.  Flame was enlarged to other cabines on deck and also to another deck and navigation bridge. Completely fire was extinguished after several hours with the help of fire-fighting boat and municipal fire-brigade.


05.05.1963 - SRT-4263 - Logger type trawler, built in 1955, GDR, port of registry - Klaipeda.
  On May 05, 1963 SRT-4263 ran aground not far from Bornholm island in the Baltic Sea.  All crew members were rescued. Vessel foundered the same day.


14.04.1964 - MRS-80 №379 - project 389, small size fishing seiner.
  MRS-80 №379 disappeared at Far East together with 7 crew members.


26.11.1964 - "KRISTALL" - "Mayakovsky" type trawler, IMO: 5196749, Yard No. 825, 1960, Soviet flag, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  Trawler "Kristall" was berthed in port Kaliningrad after major repair and dry dock. One day before sea trials the vessel started bunkering. Soon "Kristall" capsized because of wrong bunkering operating. She was refloated and served untill 1993.


19.01.1965 -   On January 19, 1965 in heavy storm and extremely low temperature disappeared four medium size trawlers "Boksitogorsk", Nakhichevan", Sebezh" and Sevsk". "Boksitogorsk" was found capsized because of overicing. Before she sank in lat. 58:32S, long. 172:48W one man was rescued by trawler "Urup". It was one of the most serious casualties in the soviet time fishery.


15.04.1965 - SRT-638 "MEDYNKA" - Logger type trawler, built in 1951 in GDR, Yard No. 482, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  On April 15, 1965 trawler SRT-638 "Medynka" ran aground in the Baltic Sea not far from swedish settlement Landsort as a result of navigation mistake. When engine room was flooded all crew leaved the vessel. Several hours later the vessel slipped from rocks without assistance and foundered.


25.08.1965 - SRT-126 "MYS" - Logger type trawler, built in 1949 in GDR, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  On August 25, 1965 trawler SRT-4473 "Kolpino" collided with  SRT-638 "Mys". The hull of SRT-638 "Mys" was holed and later she foundered. All crew members were saved by other vessels.


1965 - "SEVASTOPOL" - "Kreml" type trawler, built in 1951, 1957 converted to research, IMO:5321186, yard No. 1234, port of registry - Murmansk.
  Fire occured onboard research trawler "Sevastopol" in Kola Bay while waiting major refit (replacement of main engine). During firefighting operation so much water being pumped on board that vessel was grounded. It was declared a constructive total loss of the ship.


05.01.1966 - "TUKUMS" - built in 1957, GDR, Yard No. 4436, port of registry -  Liepaya.
  Trawler "Tukums" damage her hull during transferring of cargo to fish carrier. Water leakage to one of cargo spaces was found after finish of cargo operation, when the vessel was on her way to fishing. Trawler was taken on tow by fish factory vessel "Geyzer" but water started to leak to other cargo hold and soon "Tukums" sank. Not all crew members were saved successfully.


15.01.1966 - "ANGARA" - built in 1950, Sweden, Yard No. 10, IMO:5501713, port of registry - Vladivostok.
  In heavy weather fish carrier "Angara" was grounded on the Moneron island not far from south west part of the Sakhalin when she looked out a safe place to drop anchor. The vessel slipped from rocks, but later water flooded two cargo holds and "Angara" foundered. All crew members were picked up by other vessels.


01.1966 - "REFRIGERATOR NO. 10" - built in 1955, Denmark, Yard No. 730, IMO:5291745, port of registry - Vladivostok.
  Fish processing vessel "Refrigerator No. 10" in the Bering Sea about 35 miles north of Umnak Island, in the Aleutians, sustained hole below waterline in cargo hold area. Water flooded both cargo holds and the vessel sank. Sailors were picked up by soviet fishing vessels. Six crew members were lost.


06.02.1966 - "TOPOROK" - medium size Black Sea seiner.
  On February 6, 1966 seiner "Toporok" was on her way to Gelendzhik (Black Sea). Seiner foundered in heavy weather near cape Indocopas. All 13 crew members lost their lives.


19.02.1966 - "KARAGA" - Logger type trawler, built in 1956 in GDR, Yard No. 4392, port of registry - Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.
  Trawler "Karaga" foundered after icing in the Sea of Okhotsk near Utashud Island. All 26 (24?) crew members were lost.


1966 - "POBEDA" - "Kreml" type trawler, built in 1950, IMO:5280095, yard No. 1232, port of registry - Murmansk.
  In the end of 1966 trawler "Pobeda" was berthed in port Murmansk. In forward spaced of the vessel broke out a fire. During firefighting operation showed up a treat of capsizing the vessel because a list run up to 20 degrees. But in several hours a fire was extinguished. Ballast tanks were filled with water and a list was removed.


28.02.1967 - "TUKAN" - "Tropik" type trawler, IMO: 6370380, Yard No.7002, 1962, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  On February 28, 1967 in heavy storm, about 02.30 was found sea water in propeller shaft tunnel. To all appearance hatches, doors or vent ducts on the stern part of the trawler "Tukan" were loosen or hull was cracked, and water went inside the vessel. Very quickly fish processing and fish meal factories were flooded. At 04.42 was sent distress call and at 04.50 "Tukan" foundered about 15 miles west of Hanstholm Lighthouse on the northwest coast of the Denmark in lat. 57:18N, long. 08:23E. Soviet fish processing vessel "Vilis Lacis" saved 22 seamen, but one of them died on board. 57 seamen lost they lives together with vessel. Only 47 bodies were found next days.


04.03.1967 - SRT-4240 "Orel" - Logger type trawler, built in 1955 in GDR, Yard No. 4240, port of registry - Liepaya.
  On March 04, 1967 in heavy storm, SRT-4240 "Orel" ran aground at the point of Skaw, Unst Island. All crew members were rescued.


15.11.1967 - "BALTIKA" - built in 1949, Norway, IMO:5035220, Yard No.323, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  At the end of 1967 fish processing vessel "Baltika" was anchored in one of the bays of the Faеroe Islands. Night time she dragged her anchor during very strong wind and as a result she was grounded. Hull was damaged and water started to leak to the engine room and aft cargo hold. Soviet vessel "Altay" moored alongside the "Baltika" and unloaded cargo from liking cargo hold. Also holes in the hull were patched. In several days water was pumped out and on December 2, the vessel pulled from rocks and towed to Kaliningrad.


05.1968 - "MAYAKOVSKY" - lead vessel of this type, 1958, IMO:5230167, port of registry - Murmansk.
  While fishing in Labrador Sea On May, 18, 1968 at 04.05 in main switchboard of trawler "Mayakovsky" occured short circuit and broke out a fire. Fire very fast spread over all engine room. Engine room was sealed and at 04.30 steam-smothering system was activated. It seemed that a fire went out but at 04.55 explosion happened. At 05.30 another explosion happened and a fire broke out in the vesselS accommodation. All crew left the vessel on life boats and life raft. Ablaze trawler was towed to one of labrador islands. Several days later emergency squad began to pump out water from engine room but list of the vessel began to increase. When list reached 40 degrees emergency squad left the trawler and "Mayakovsky" foundered with large port side list and aft trim.


06.1968 - "DZHANKOY" - built in 1955 in Poland, IMO:6723070, Yard No. B10/49, port of registry - Murmansk.
  While berthed in Murmansk Fishing Port in one of cabins broke out a fire from radio set. As a result of a fire one cabin and navigation bridge were complitely destroyed.


23.01.1969 - "CHERNYSHEVSKIY" - "Mayakovsky" type trawler, IMO: 5069673, Yard No. 807, 1958, Soviet flag, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  On January 23, 1969, trawler "Perlamutr" collided with trawler "Chernyshevskiy" not far from Labrador coast. Right board of the ship in area of engine room was holed. Through a hole water began to flood an engine room. Vessel deenergized and got a list. Crew tried to patch a hole, but without success, because sharp edges of a hole tore off a patch. Crew abandoned "Chernyshevskiy" and soon she sank.


13.03.1969 - SRT-4553 "PAVILOSTA" - Logger type trawler, built in 1958 in GDR, Yard No. 4553, port of registry - Liepaya.
  On March, 13, 1969 SRT-4553 "Pavilosta" sank after collision with tanker "Esso Honduras", not far from east USA coast in lat. 36:09N, long. 19:39W. All seamen from SRT-4553 were lost.


26.04.1969 - "GRIGORIY POLUYANOV" - B-25 type trawler, built in 1968 in Poland, IMO: 6914174, Yard No. B26/24, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  On April 04, 1969, trawler "Grigoriy Poluyanov" got several underwater holes in ice-flores of the Labrador sea. Sea water began to flood cargo hold. Rescue vessel helped to pump out sea water and towed trawler to port St JohnS.


21.05.1960 - MRS-80 №419 - project 389, small size fishing seiner.
MRS-80 №419 capsized and sank at Far East together with 7 crew members.


16.09.1960 - MRS-80 №116 - project 389, small size fishing seiner.
MRS-80 №116 capsized and sank at Far East together with 6 crew members.


16.12.1969 - "ADLEROVETS" - medium size Black Sea seiner.
  On December 16, 1969, seiner "Adlerovets" was on her way from Sochi to Anapa (Black Sea). In heavy weather near cape Indocopas large wave hit the vessel. While a list about 80 degrees water ingress to engine room, cargo hold and fore spaces. Second wave hit the vessel and "Adlerovets" capsized. Only one seamen was rescued by other seiner other 11 men died. Foundered vessel was found next days at a depth 42 m  in lat. 44:24N, long. 38:12E.


29.01.1970 - "PIONER" - medium size Black Sea seiner.
  On January 29, 1970, in heavy storm on her way from Temryuk to Kerch seiner "Pioner" run aground near cape Kamennyy, the Sea of Azov. The vessel was lost. Crew rescued safely.


18.03.1970 - "GONETS" - GDR built logger, year of built 1949, port of registry - Kerch.
  On March 15, 1970, while fishing near cape Tarkhankut, Black Sea, a trawl twisted around screw propeller of trawler "Gonets". On March 17, trawler "Kontact" took the vessel in tow. The weather became worse. Seagoing tug "Dunay" came to the scene and at 23.10 started towage of "Gonets" to Sevastopol. Around 01.00 both vessels run aground on a rocky coast near cape Khersones. "Dunay" went from rocks but "Gonets" was lost.


23.04.1970 - "PINAGOR" - "Gornostay" type trawler, Yard No. 1063, 1957, Soviet flag.
  On April 23, 1970, trawler "Pinagor" run aground on a reef off Paramushir island, Noth Kuril islands because of navigation mistake. Engine room was flooded in several minutes. Next morning all seamen were picked up by salvage ships. The vessel was totally lost.


09.10.1970 - RS-5314 "KHARIUS" - GDR built RS-300 type seiner, built in 1958,  port of registry - Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.
  On October 09, 1970, seiner RS-5314 "Kharius" capsized and sank together with 16 (14?) crew members near mother base "Sovetskaya Kamchatka".


19.06.1971 - "BRASLAV" - "Mayakovsky" type trawler, IMO: 5050660, Yard No. 841, built in 1961, port of registry - Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.
  "Braslav" sank in the Sea of Okhotsk in lat. 53:25N, long. 161:35E following a collision with the Soviet tanker "Sula". All 106 seamen were rescued by "Sula" (??).


12.02.1972 - "LYSVA" - GDR built RS-300 type seiner, built in 1954,  port of registry - Nakhodka.
  Seiner "Lysva" and eleven seamen disappeared during bad weather condition in the Zaliv Petra Velikogo on the Far East. The wreck of "Lysva" was accidentally found by divers on September 6, 2002, near the Vityaz bay.


14.10.1972 - MRS-80 №1455 - project 389, small size fishing seiner.
  MRS-80 №1455 sank at Far East together with 6 crew members.


31.12.1972 - "KOMPASS" - "Pelengator" type training trawler, IMO: 6817015, Yard No. 822, built in 1968, port of registry - Murmansk.
  On December 31, 1970, trawler "Kompass" was anchored on the Murmansk road. She dragged her anchor during bad weather condition and struck a berth. Because of heave damage to her hull she sank near a berth. Later she was refloated and hulked.


11.06.1973 - "SLAVSK" - "Tropik" type trawler, IMO: 6521783, Yard No.7053, built in 1965, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  On June, 11, 1973 while fishing in Southeast Atlantic, in 90 miles from port Uolfish-Bej, at 02.37 (time local) trawler "Slavsk" collided with cuban freezer trawler "Playa Colorada". Left board of the ship in area of an engine room (50-th... 64-th frames) under a corner almost 90 degrees has been rammed. As a result of impact "Slavsk" received significant damages to area of engine room and a superstructure: length of a hole on a superstructure of 10 m, on boat deck - 5.25 m, on the main deck - 2 m, the height of a hole - 11.5 m, the bottom edge of a hole on 1.6 m is lower than a waterline, depth of damages on a superstructure - 4 m, on boat deck - 3 m, on the main deck - 2 m. Through a hole water almost instantly flooded engine room, distributed to fish factory and fish meal plant. At 04.00 emergency squad from trawler "Kazan" patched a hole. However it was not provide closing up of hole as the size of patch was insufficient for overlapping a underwater part of a hole. Crew of the trawler  together with emergency groups of other ships disconnected the flooded parts of electric systems and started the emergency diesel generator and provided lighting of vessel and work of the most necessary mechanisms. At 06.30 to the right board of "Slavsk" moored trawler "Volkhovstroy" and Slavsk" recieved electropumps collected from ships in area of disaster. It was started pumping out of water from fish factory and fish meal plant. At 19.25 from port Walvis Bay arrived tag "Kempbell" and started pumping out water from engine room. On June, 12 at 1109 trawler "Argun" in support trawlers "Volkhovstroy", "Porechie" and "Kayra" started towage of "Slavsk" to port Walvis Bay with a speed 2...3 kn. At 10.50 "Slavsk" dropped anchor on internal road of port Walvis Bay where the overload of frozen fish was started. Damaged underwater part was permanently welded and above-water parts closed up with canvas and boards. At 18.20 on July, 17 trawler "Porechie" started towage of "Slavsk" to port Kaliningrad.


14.06.1973 - "AKADEMIK BERG" -"Mayakovsky" type trawler, IMO: 6404155, built in 1963, port of registry - Vladivostok.
  On June 14, 1973, trawler "Akademik Berg" collided with soviet submarine "K-56". 26 (27?) seamans on submarine died.


30.06.1973 - "SRETENSK" -"Olga" type freezer trawler, IMO: 7045425, Yard No. 188, built in 1970.
  On June 30, 1973, trawler  "Amurskiy Partizan" in Bering Sea collided with trawler "Sretensk" which got a big hole and soon sank.


13.07.1973 - "15 SYEZD VLKSM" Russian, motor stern trawling factory ship, USSR, 1966, U.S.S.R., 3,170.
  The Russian motor stern trawling factory ship "15 Syezd VLKSM", registered at the Soviet Far Eastern port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, sank following a collision in dense fog with the Russian stern trawling factory ship "Nakhodka" off the Oregon coast about 25 miles south-west of Heceta Head on July 13, 1973. 22.08.1973 - "EKLIPTIKA" Russian, motor trawler, U.S.S.R., 1967, U.S.S.R., 667.
  The Russian motor trawler "Ekliptika" was wrecked when she ran aground on rocks 15 miles south of Valparaiso on August 22, 1973. All her crew members were saved. (from Maritime Casualties 1963-1996 by N.Hooke)


23.11.1973 - RS-5271 "YASTREB" - RS-300 type seiner, Yard No. 5271, built in 1955 in GDR, IMO: 6862084, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  Seiner RS-5271 "Yastreb" followed from the bay Taga-Lakht, Saarema island, The Baltic Sea. Strong wave hit the vessel. Seiner got a list and crew found out a hole in the hull. RS-5271 "Yastreb" began sinking. All crew members moved to life raft and later were saved by vessel RMS-1529 but one seaman was lost in attempt to climb the RMS-1529.


13.03.1974 - "MORSHANSK" - "Vasiliy Yakovenko" type freezer trawler, project 502EM, Yard No. 1367, built in 1972 in USSR, IMO: 7305198, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  Trawler "Morshansk" was following from Las Palmas to the Barents Sea when greek vessel "Natal" hit "Morshansk". The hull of the vessel was holed in the area of engine room. In 36 minutes "Morshansk" foundered. All crew members moved to life rafts and later were picked up by Soviet vessel.


22.11.1974 - "KOBULETI" - "Atlantik" type factory freezer trawler, Yard No. 301, built in 1970 in GDR, IMO: 7030872.
  Fish factory trawler "Kobuleti" sank after collision with supertrawler "Akhilleon".


12.01.1975 - "ELTON" - "Bratsk" type fish processing vessel, IMO: 5102853, built in 1962 at GDR, port of registry - Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.
  In heavy storm fish processing vessel "Elton" run aground at north-east part of Avachinskiy zaliv. All crew members were rescued next day.


29.01.1975 - "BEREZINA" - "Zveroboy" type factory vessel (project B-422), IMO: 7384522, built in 1974 at Gdansk, Soviet flag.
  Factory vessel "Berezina" was engulfed by a fire that broke out in one of crew cabins in the early hours on January 29, 1975. At 1600 (local time) 30 crew members were evacuated on board of trawler "Kapitan Demidov". Extinguishing of fire does not give effect, the gale blew out fire. At 19.00 dangerous list appeared. Fish carrier "Otto Grotevohl" try to tow ablaze vessel but towing rope repeatedly broke. Only on January 31 attempt to start towage became successful. The vessel was towed to Faеroe Islands. Ten lives of seamen were lost.


23.03.1975 - "CHERDYN" - "Olga" type freezer trawler (project 502M), IMO: 7118329, built in 1971 at Khabarovsk, Soviet flag.
  "Cherdyn" sank following an explosion. Vessel pulled out a trawl aboard and found unidentified rusted metal object. Captain decided to throw out from trawl this object. But when the unidentified object fall out it detonated. Starboard was heavy damaged and cargo hold #2 filled up with water. Vessel sank less then 1 hour. All crew was rescued by trawler "Ratkovo".


18.06.1975 - "SHKVAL" Russian, motor fish. carrier, U.S.S.R., 1965, Rheinstahl Nordseewerke, Emden, 4,716: 135.21 x 16.84 x 11.36 metres.
  During the night of June 17-18, 1975, while at Bijela, Yugoslavia, for repairs, the Russian motor fish carrier "Shkval" was heavily damaged by a fire. The blazing vessel was towed out of port and beached, with her afterpart submerged and the engine-room and superstructure gutted. 22.06.1975 - "ZALESJE" Russian, motor stern trawling factory ship, U.S.S.R., 1965, Volkswerft Stralsund, Stralsund, 2,435, 79.81 x 13.21 x 7.01metres.
  The Russian motor stern trawling factory ship "Zalesje" sank in the North Atlantic in lat. 48:05N, long. 14:55W, on June 22, 1975, following a collision with the British motor vessel "Ionic". All 79 men on board were safely rescued by the British vessel, which then transferred them to another Russian fish factory. (from Maritime Casualties 1963-1996 by N.Hooke)


24.11.1975 - "GORIZONT" Russian, motor fish factory, U.S.S.R., 1974, 4,537.
  The Russian motor fish factory "Gorizont" sank following a collision with the Moroccan motor vessel "Ifni" in the English Channel about 20 miles south of the Isle of Wight in lat. 50:13N long 01:13W, on November 24, 1975. Her crew was rescued. The "Ifni", which was on her maiden voyage, put into Le Havre with hull damage. (from Maritime Casualties 1963-1996 by N.Hooke)


03.1977 - "SVOBODNYY" - "Olga" type freezer trawler, IMO: 7035808, Yard No. 167, built in 1968, port of registry - Vladivostok.
  Trawler "Svobodnyy" was grounded on rocks of Paramushir island. All crew members were rescued by soviet naval helicopter. The vessel was lost.


09.10.1978 - "RUDNYY" - "Tavriya" type fish processing vessel, built in 1962 at Nikolaev, U.S.S.R., flag of U.S.S.R., port of registry - Kaliningrad, IMO: 5301746,
  On October 9, 1978, at 06.57 (local time) near island Bornholm in Baltic Sea in a fog cargo vessel "Nordmark" with speed about 15 kn hit the factory vessel "Rudnyy" under corner 140 degrees in area of cargo hold #2. After collision mv "Nordmark" disappeared. Hold #2 was right away flooded, and the vessel heeled on 10 degrees. At 07.35 crew put two patches on place of damage.  By 10.00 list increased to 25 degrees. By 12.25 list increased to 32 degrees and water ingress at holds #2 and 3 was found. Owner of the vessel  decided to transfer all crew to another vessels and to run aground damaged vessel. At 13.20 vessel started moving to shore with speed about 6 kn. All crew except six officer was evacuateed. At 16.18 "Rudnyy" ran aground near lighthouse Sandhammaren with list 34 degrees. By 12 October pumping out of water from holds #1 and 3 was finished and at 15.27 vessel pulled out from ground. Tug "Gordyy" started towing of "Rudnyy". On 13 October, at 22.50 vessel berthed at Kaliningrad with list 7 degrees. On 14 October "Rudnyy" was docked.


28.12.1978 - "BORIS GORINSKIY" - "Mayakovsky" type freezer trawler, IMO: 6701125, Yard No. 950, built in 1966, port of registry - Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.
  The Soviet fish factory trawler "Boris Gorinskiy" sank following a collision with the Soviet refrigerated fish carrier "Proliv Laperuza" (type "50 Let USSR") at Bering Sea. "Proliv Laperuza"  hit the trawler between Engine Room and first cargo hold."Boris Gorinskiy" went down in about 20 minutes, but crew was rescued.


1978 - "KRECHET" - "Pioner Latvii" type freezer trawler, IMO: 7045281, Yard No. 303, built in 1970, port of registry - Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.
  Fish factory trawler "Krechet" grounded on rocks in Lavrova bay in lat. 60:23N, long. 167:03E at the north-east coast of Kamchatka. Vessel was abandoned because of heavy damage to a hull.


01.01.1979 - "SEVEROMORSKIY KOMSOMOLETS" - "Mayakovsky" type freezer trawler, IMO: 6600400, Yard No. 929, built in 1965, port of registry - Murmansk.
  Trawler "Severomorskiy Komsomolets" around 8.00 in the morning, got a post from other vessel, near the cape Chevray in the Barents Sea. About 30 minutes later she damage her hull against underwater rocks. Water began to flood the engine room quickly. Several hours later it was decided to beached the trawler. The tug "Smelyy" pushed "Severomorskiy Komsomolets" to a beach on 16.55 but tide flooded the vessel.


01.01.1979 - "OSTROV SIBIRYAKOVA" - "Ostrov Russkiy" type fish carrier,-IMO: 6905783, Yard No. 1110, built in 1969, port of registry - Riga.
  On January 01, 1979 while in tow by tugs "Vilnis" and "Slavnyy" from Goteborg to Riga fish carrier "Ostrov Sibiryakova" and also tug "Slavnyy" run aground in rough weather near south-eastern Sweden. 57 crew members from both vessels was evacuated by swedish helicopters. On board of fish carrier remained only four persons. During inspection were found that cargo hold #3, both deep tanks, all double bottom tanks and also pipe tunnel were flooded. But after intensive works leaks in the hold #3 were removed and on January 17 started refloating of the vessel. Only on January 20 "Ostrov Sibiryakova" with help of five tugs was pulled out from the shore. On January 25 she anchored in Klaipeda. Concerning, the tug "Slavnyy" it was declared a constructive total loss of the ship.


05.02.1979 - "METROSTROY" Russian, steam trawler, U.S.S.R.,1960, Stocznia im.Komuny Paryskiej, Gdynia, 647, 59.24 x 9.02 x 4.91 metres.
  All 39 men on board the Russian steam trawler "Metrostroy" lost their lives when their vessel disappeared during a blizzard in the Barents Sea about 55 miles east of Vardo, far north-eastern Norway, on February 4, 1979. The frozen bodies of two were located on a raft seven miles east of Vardo late the following day, but no trace was ever found of the other 37. Then, about seven weeks later, an oil slick blanketed over 60 miles of coastline in Varangerfjord, killing more than 10,000 sea birds. The oil was believed to have come from the fuel tanks of the "Metrostroy", as fish crates marked with the vesselS name were discovered amongst the dead birds and globules of oil on March 24. 05.05.1979 - "FELIKS KON" - "Professor Baranov" type milti-purpose mother ship, IMO: 6910300, Yard No. B69/05, built in 1968 in Poland.
  Under repair in port Sovetskaya Gavan in board of "Feliks Kon" were cut access holes. Vessel got a list and sea water poured inside engine room and adjacent cargo hold. "Feliks Kon" sank near a berth. She was refloated at the same month.


28.09.1979 - "BOKSIT" - type "Atlantik", IMO: 7348554, Yard No. 366, built in 1976, Soviet flag, port of registry - Nakhodka.
  On September 28, 1979, trawler "Boksit" was heading from Nakhodka to fishing area. During pumpig of diesel oil from one tank to another, diesel oil overflowed to engine room and ignited. Engine room was abandoned and sealed. Fire has been extinguished with carbon-dioxide [CO2] fire extinguish system. The vessel towed to port for repair.


20.10.1979 - "AMURSKIY PARTIZAN" - "Olga" type trawler, IMO: 7101918, Yard No. 195, built in 1970, port of registry - Nakhodka.
  On October 20, 1979, trawler "Amurskiy Partizan" run aground in stormy weather. Crew rescued by helicopter. The vessel was lost.


02.07.1980 - "SOVETSKAYA KAMCHATKA" - "Severodvinsk" type mother ship, IMO: 5336014, Yard No. B-62/09, built in 1961, port of registry - Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.
  On early night July 02, 1980, on trials mother ship  "Sovetskaya Kamchatka"  run aground in Avachinskaya Guba. Some cargos, fuel and water were transferred to other vessels and she was refloated on July 08. As a result of accident she got 5 big dents with length from 3 to 20 m.


19.06.1981 - "ALEKSANDR KOSAREV" - "Andrey Zakharov" type mother ship, IMO: 6701008, Yard No. 715, built in 1967 in USSR, port of registry - Vladivostok.
  On June 19, 1981, mother ship "Aleksandr Kosarev" was on her way from port Yuzhno-Kurilsk towards Spanberg sound. At 05.39 (local time) she run aground a bank in Spanberg sound. Only on July 01, "Aleksandr Kosarev" was pulled out from the bank and towed to Yuzhno-Kurilsk. Several day later she was towed to Vladivostok. As a result of grounding - 38 tanks and void spaces holed, one cargo hold flooded. Never again put into operation.


23.06.1981 - "ARMATURSHCHIK" - "Olga" type freezer trawler, Yard No. 179, built in 1969, IMO: 7044550, port of registry - Nakhodka.
  While fishing in Bering Sea "Armaturshchik" collided with trawler "Dubno".  Underwater hull in engine room area was holed. Despite help of other trawlers "Armaturshchik" foundered in 3 hours.


07.09.1981 - SRTR-9074 "OLENIY" - "Okean" type trawler, built in 1959 in GDR, yard No. 9074, IMO: 7040231, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  On September 7, 1981 SRTR-9074 "Oleniy" were waiting for the turn to unload fish on a mother ship. Early morning was found a light list. Attempt to level a list was not successful. The list continued to increase. In 40 minutes the order to leave the vessel was given. The crew of the trawler got over to life rafts. Their were saved by the trawler SRTR-9019 "Okhta". Soon SRTR-9074 "Oleniy" capsized and sank.


10.09.1981 - "NOVOKACHALINSK" - type "Atlantik Supertrawler", IMO: 8031287, Yard No. 513, built in 1980, Soviet flag, port of registry - Korsakov.
  On September 10, 1981, soviet nuclear powered submarine "K-45" (project 659T, 8 torpedo tubes, 20 torpedoes on board, crew 120) collided with trawler "Novokachalinsk". In a board of trawler the big hole was formed, and submarine got strong damage of fore body parts. After collision "Novokachalinsk" went to dry dock in Vladivostok where fire occurred in the engine-room, two or three crew member died. Trawler has not been restored after fire.


04.05.1982 - "ALEKSANDR OBUKHOV" - "Andrey Zakharov" type Canning mother ship, Yard No.708, built in 1962, IMO: 5400396, port of registry - Vladivostok.
  While berthed at the home port Vladivostok mother ship "Aleksandr Obukhov" capsized following wrong ballast operations. As commission has then found out, the reason of tragedy became bad pipe plug, on firefighting system in hold. Pipe plug was damaged and sea water began to fill a hold. The list of the ship appeared. The second engineer instead of finding out the reason of the list, started to pump water as a ballast in one of rooms for liquid cargo. A vessel suddenly capsized and rested by masts against a ground. 8 crew members died. Later ship was refloated and broken up in 1986.


16.10.1982 - "ZHELEZNOVODSK" Russian, motor stern trawling fish factory, U.S.S.R., 1970, VEB Volkswerft Stralsund, Stralsund, 2,177, 82.02 x 13.64 x 9.56 metres.
  While en route from the Black Sea to Atlantic Ocean fishing grounds, the Russian motor stern trawling fish factory "Zheleznovodsk" sank following a collision in dense fog with the Chinese motor vessel "Jian De" east of Gibraltar in lat. 36:10N, long. 04:35W, on October 16, 1982. There was no loss of life from her large crew of 80, who were all safely picked up by a Polish vessel, which then transferred them to a Russian fish carrier. They were all landed at Gibraltar. 21.10.1982 - "REFRIGERATOR No.13" - "Refrigerator No.4" type fish processing vessel, Yard No.733, built in 1955, IMO: 5291771, port of registry - Vladivostok.
  On October 21, 1981 near Vladivostok "Refrigerator No.13" collided with soviet submarine "C-178" (project 613B, 6 torpedo tubes, 12 torpedoes on board, crew 56). Submarine sank in 40 seconds after collision. 32 crew members from "C-178" died.


16.04.1983 - "KHRUSTAL" - "Mayakovsky" type trawler, Yard No.862, built in 1963, IMO: 5412088, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  While fishing in the Norway Sea onboard the trawler "Khrustal" a fire broke out. All attemps to extinguish the fire were without success. Crew left the vessel. Three seamen died for various reasons. "Khrustal" was towed to Svetlyy (USSR). Due to big damage (cargo holds and engine room burned down) the vessel next year was towed to scrapyard. (see incident on 08.03.1984)


20.06.1983 - "ORION" - "Tropik" type trawler, Yard No.7020, built in 1963, IMO: 6408967, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  On June 6, 1983, trawler "Orion" while fishing at coast of Africa as a result of a rough navigating mistake at 21.08 (time local) ran aground at speed 8 kn. At 21.18 left anchor was dropped and attempt was undertaken to refloat at full speed back, but the vessel has not moved from a place. At 21.26 were revealed water leak in steering gear room. At 21.37 have found out, that a rudder has jammed under a corner 20 degrees the left board. At 21.45 have found out water leak in a fish meal plant compartement.
From 21.50 up to 22.50 again worked with main engine from "Stop" up to " Full back ", but a vessel from a place has not moved and at 22.50 have finally stopped the main engine. At about 23.00 on July, 20 in area of disaster came trawlers "Persey", Saturn", "Zaraysk" same type with "Orion". By the end of day on July, 21 a vessel continued to remain aground with a list 16 degrees on the left board. There was an insignificant water leak in ER through the connections of pipelines weakened as a result of strong impacts of a vessel about a ground. As a result of water leak in ER have been flooded the diesel generator No1. Bilge pump in ER could not pump water because of a significant list. As a result of clogging of sea chests with sand, it was impossible to use of the main engine. From July 24 till July 31 attempts to refloat of the trawler by efforts fish carrier "Leninskie Gory", trawlers "Persey" and "Zaraysk" were made but towing rope repeatedly broke.
  "Orion" have been refloated only on August 21. After diving inspection towed to port Luanda where then up to the end of contract "Orion" used only for processing the fish and broken up in 1984.


11.1983 - SRTM 8-428 - "Mayak" type trawler, Yard No. 17, built in 1965, IMO: 6900915, port of registry - Vladivostok.
  While fishing in the Bering Sea one of her cargo holds was flooded. Salvage tug "Suvorovets" took the vessel on tow. But the weather became worse and began leak to another cargo hold. Finally SRTM 8-428 sank. Only two crew members were saved.


08.03.1984 - "KHRUSTAL" - "Mayakovsky" type trawler, Yard No.862, built in 1963, IMO: 5412088, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  Trawler "Khrustal" ran aground in Kaliningrad sea canal, on March 8, 1984, while in tow to scrapyard after the towrope broke. Only on March 21, 1984 she was refloated and towed to port of destination.


08.03.1984 - "GERMAN TITOV" - "Bologoe" type trawler, Yard No.200, built in 1959, IMO: 6900915, port of registry - Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.
  On March 8, 1984, trawler "German Titov" sank in the Sea of Okhotsk. Crew saved.


22.08.1984 - "BUREVESTNIK" - "Tavriya" type fish processing vessel, Yard No.32, built in 1962, IMO: 6800189, port of registry - Riga.
  Factory vessel "Burevestnik" was anchored on the road of Liepaya when motor vessel "Akademik Shukhov" at 11.08 hit left side with speed 18 kn. At left board of the ship in area of cargo hold #2 appeared a hole with length 6.2m, height 8m and width 9.5m, and  hold #2 was right away flooded, and the vessel heeled on 8 degrees. At 13.46 to the right board moored soviet naval fire boat "PZHK-415" from which "Burevestnik" recieved five ejector pumps. At 14.10 water leaks was found at cargo hold #1. At 14.22 was decided to transfer all crew to another vessel and to run aground damaged vessel (list of the vessel 19 degrees at that moment). At 17.25 vessel ran aground. By the time of graunding list of the vessel became 25 degrees, but after grounding list decreased to 6 degrees, also all 3 cargo holds were flooded. On august 25 heavy gale started. All major works were stopped until 7 september. On 5 september was put patch on place of damage. On 7 september water from tweendecks #1,2,3 was pumped out. At 17.47 the vessel floated with list 14 degrees. After dewatering of cargo holds on 9 september "Burevestnik" was docked with list 6 degrees.


10.10.1984 - MRS-225-050 - project 1322, small size fishing seiner, built in 1973 in USSR.
  MRS-225-050 sank at Far East on October 10, 1984. One seaman lost his life.


30.12.1984 - "SUZDAL" - "Spassk" type mother ship, Yard No.870, built in 1966 in Japan, IMO: 6609808, port of registry - Vladivostok.
  At 21.55 (local time) on December 31, 1984, while anchored on the Vladivostok road fire broke out in the cargo hold #2. At 04.45 the vessel moored at fishing port. In firefighting operation took place shore firefighting brigade and four salvage vessels. On first January two men lost and several seriously suffered. Fire was extinguished around 19.00 on 2 January.


03.1985 - "SOVETSKAYA KAMCHATKA" Russian, steam fish factory U.S.S.R., 1961, Stocznia Gdanska im. Lenina, Gdansk, 10,036, 155.15 x 20.05 x 11.61 metres.
  The Russian steam fish factory "Sovetskaya Kamchatka" was gutted by a 12-hour fire that was started by drunken crewmen while in a bay about 90 miles from Vladivostok in March, 1984. A renon published in the Soviet trade union daily "Trud" hinted that the inferno had cost lives, with many of the crew being so drunk that when flames leapt through the vessel, they panicked and threw themselves into the freezing water before any rescue could be organised. The fire was reported to have been started by a group of men drinking pure spirit that had been smuggled on board. When a large pool of this was spilt on the floor, one of the seamen set fire to it. 14.10.1985 - "IOZAS VITAS" - "Mayakovsky" type trawler, Yard No.934, built in 1965, IMO: 6822656, port of registry - Klaipeda.
  On October 14, 1985, near mauritanian coast trawler "Iozas Vitas" hit anchored spanish trawler "Alcoco". After collizion "Alcoco" sank. Seven seamen from spanish vessel were lost.


08.1987 - "MONGOLIYA" - "Mayakovsky" type trawler, Yard No.881, built in 1964, IMO: 6415805, port of registry - Murmansk.
  In 80s trawler "Mongoliya" was handed to fish factory located in village Dikson. In 1987 she was grounded near Dikson. Two attemps to refloat vessel were without success. From wreck only pumped out fuel bunker.


02.04.1988 - "MYS BOBROVA" Russian, motor stem-trawling fish factory, USSR- "Dalryba", 1972, "Chernomorskiy" Shipyard, Nikolayev, 2.581 grt, 83.90 x 14.03 x 10.01.
  The 16-year-old Russian motor stern-trawling fish factory "Mys Bobrova" sank in the Bering Sea on April 3, 1988, after becoming stuck in ice, which pierced her hull, causing water to gush into her engine-room. Her crew was rescued without loss. (from Maritime Casualties 1963-1996 by N.Hooke)


08.12.1988 - "NADEZHDINSK" - "Mayakovskiy" type freezer trawler, project 394, IMO: 7032521, Yard No. 995, built in 1968, port of registry - Nakhodka.
  To take cover from bad weather freezer trawler "Nadezhdinsk" came into the bay Glubokaya where she ran aground. The hull of "Nadezhdinsk" was seriously damaged and it was not succeeded to refloat the vessel.


09.12.1988 - "ZA RODINU" - "Vasiliy Yakovenko" type freezer trawler, project 502EM, Yard No. 1388, built in 1974 in USSR, IMO: 7642429, port of registry - Kaliningrad.
  Trawler "Za Rodinu" was following from Baltiysk to fishing area when Soviet navy vessel SKR-769 hit the trawler. The hull of the vessel was holed in the area of engine room. "Za Rodinu" foundered  in lat. 55:22N, long. 19:43E. All crew members were picked up by the navy vessel.


06.09.1989 - "LADUSHKIN" Russian, motor fishing vessel, USSR - Zapryba, 1972, USSR, 180 grt, 31.60 x 7.35 x 2.84.
  All 15 of the crew lost their lives as a consequence of their vessel, the 17-year-old Russian motor fishing vessel "Ladushkin", sinking in the Baltic Sea off Gotland Island in lat. 56:33N, long. 17:45"30"E, at 00.11 on September 6, 1989, within minutes of a collision with the 6,060 dwt Finnish motor tanker "Tebostar". One of the all-Russian crew, the radio operator, was rushed to hospital in Kalmar, Sweden, but died soon after arriving, while the 14 others remained missing, presumed to have drowned. The master of the tanker reported that he was trying to avoid another of the 14 Russian fishing vessels in the area at the time when the collision occurred. 08.12.1989 - "VITAUTAS PUTNA" Russian, motor-stern trawling fish factory, USSR- "Zapryba", 1965, USSR, 2,407 grt, 84.69 x 14.03 x 5.70.
  On December 8, 1989, while bound for Klaipeda from fishing grounds, a fire broke out on board the 24-year-old Russian motor stern-trawling fish factory "Vitautas Putna" in the Bay of Biscay in approximately lat. 45:04N, long. 08:09W. Her 80 surviving crew members were rescued by two merchant vessels, which later transferred them all to the ro-ro motor vessel Petr Masherou. Two others died. With a 30-degree list the "Vitautas Putna" was towed into Brest on December 13 by the motor salvage tug "Gordyy", following which the water that had been used to extinguish the blaze was pumped out. The"Gordyy" then sailed from Brest nine days later towing the casualty to Klaipeda. Due to the severity of the damage sustained, the "Vitautas Putna" was sold to Spanish shipbreakers and scrapped at Baracaldo in July, 1991. (from Maritime Casualties 1963-1996 by N.Hooke)


01.1990 - "NEVODSKOYE" - "Nadyozhnyy" type seiner-trawler, project 420, IMO: 8730211, Yard No. 1268, built in 1989, port of registry - Nevelsk.
  In January 1990, in the Sea of Okhotsk fish processing mother ship "Vladivostok" hit the seiner-trawler "Nevodskoye". Through a hole water flooded engine rooms, the vessel got a large list and was deenergized. Most of a crew left "Nevodskoye". With assistance of the sister ship "Zavety Ilicha" damaged trawler was moored alongside of  "Vladivostok". Several submerged pumps were transferred to "Nevodskoye", but pumps could not pumped out so large quantity of water and 14 hours later damaged vessel sank in lat. 54:37N, long. 147:13E.


07.10.1990 - "DEMYANSK" - fishing seiner, project 388M, IMO: 7430876, Yard No. 69, built in 1974.
  On October 7, 1990 seiner "Demyansk" was waiting for processing vessel with seine net full of fish. She took a list, capsized and foundered in lat. 43:02N, long. 132:07E. All crew members were rescued by other vessels.


1990 - "REPINO" - "Nadyozhnyy" type seiner-trawler, project 420, IMO: 8725888, Yard No. 1252, built in 1987, port of registry - Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.
  Seiner-trawler "Repino" sank in the Nakhodka bay after collision with another vessel. All crew members were rescued. Later the vessel was lifted by float cranes and scrapped.
